Stoptober October?…

Not a chance with this fella in the house!

Meet David Hunter of Nelson’s Distillery and School.

Wowser,  I don’t think we have ever had a guest who could talk as fast as David,  but mind you, he had a lot – and I mean A LOT of information to depart in a considerably short space of time.

You see David is used to taking his time when it comes to introducing and educating people about Gin. It’s a subject that he (as are many of our members, myself including) is very passionate about.

When not acting as a Guest Speaker at events, David can often be found teaching and demonstrating the colourful history of one of today’s most popular craft spirits, and showing curious customers how to mix up their very own blends of botanical beauty in a bottle!

Nelson’s Distillery in Uttoxeter was launched by Neil Harrisson, who, with passion and a dedication to creating world-class craft spirits, decided to open up the experience to anyone eager to know more. They now offer a range of craft spirits distilled on the premises including Vodka, Rum and blends created by famous people such as singer Roy Wood and Chef Michel Roux – Oo la la!

So what did we learn on the night? Well we learned that if a Gin doesn’t stand up on its own  you shouldn’t put it with a mixer, and David encouraged us to try several of the Gins on offer, neat! Teaching us to strip back the layers of each Gin, much like you would a wine, helping us to identify different notes, heat, and range of botanical flavours and scents. Also what best to pair them with when it came to both mixers and food.

Now obviously some of us needed more *coughs – shall we say – ‘encouragement’ than others, but over all, I think it was a pretty educational evening, and lots of fun to boot!

If you couldn’t make it to the meeting or would simply like to find out more about the workshops, merchandise and spirits on offer from Nelson’s Distillery and School, you can find them on all the socials like Facebook, and on their website: https://www.nelsonsdistillery.co.uk

Other things going on this month.

LMJ Team : Poppy Display at Hanley Museum

Yes it’s that time of year again when we come together to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women of the two World Wars, as well as later, modern conflicts.

We all hopefully remember the stunning display of Poppies at Wolstanton’s St Mary’s Church last year? Well our lovely LMJ ladies have been at it again only this time in Hanley, at Hanley Museum in fact.

Thank you ladies for giving up your time and energy, representing Jam in this heartfelt tribute to our heroes past and present.

Remeberance Sunday, held on the second Sunday in November, falls this weekend on the 13th.
