International Women’s Day 2024

Good morning Ladies, I hope you are all well and are looking forward to tonights meeting on this wonderful day.

Wonderful because not only is it the start of the weekend (for most of us). And not only because it’s Let’s make Jam tonight, but because it is also International Women’s Day, and those 3 things combined are as Fabulous as unicorn at a disco!

February … And Relax

And, how was your February? A month that brought us both an extra day this year, and for the nineth month in a row (being like for like) this February was the warmest February that has ever been, in like forever, EVER in the history of writing these things down. Global Warming, what Global Warming! Though it certainly didn’t feel like it, especially if you walk to work.

I always feel like February gets a bit of a bad wrap, to be honest. It’s the tail end of winter that seems to drag on after what can only be described as an Eternal January! Nothing much to look forward to except Valentines Day. Ughhh, Valentines Day, don’t even get me started, lol! Unless, that is, you are a Jam Girl.

Jam Girls have it all going on. For starters, we have Clubs in Pubs, with both Hookers and Hubbers meeting up, and of course, the main event, Lets Make Jam it’s self.

At LMJ we believe prioritizing womens health, both physically and mentally, is crucial to our overall well-being, and February’s meeting was no exception.

Now I admit I arrived late to meeting last month, but was met at the door by what can only be described as “The Most Heavenly Scents Imaginable”. A heady mix of what I think was pepermint and orange oil lifted me like a Bisto Kid (you have to be a lady of a certain age to remember the Bisto Kids) and wafted me through the double doors of the lobby and into to the main hall.

Unfortunately, I missed the talk given by Leanne (former member and founder of LMJ) and her friend Paula. And I was so busy trying to catch up on all the goss that I – A) forgot to take any photos, and B) forgot to take down any contact details of the ladies, for you! – Slipping Rebs, slipping!

We launched the Jamanory Book Hub’s ‘Blind Date With A Book’ as an ulternative to Valentines Day as both Valentines & International Book Giving Day fell on the exact same day, February the 14th.

Members brought along a book they had previously enjoyed, pre wrapped – so you couldn’t see the genre, thus being unable to ‘Judge the Book By Its Cover’, to either swap or give away to another member to enjoy. Lots of you said you would have loved to take part but didn’t know about it in time,  so we’re looking at doing it again at the start of July, just in time for the holidays, and I’ll post more about that closer too – so watch this space.

March 2024 Making Time for Tea

Arr March, I love March! Things are very slowly starting to tip towards lighter, longer, warmer days. The walk to work doesn’t seem as wet and windy, and on the Marsh, the Crocus’s and Daffodils are just starting to poke their heads above ground.

So what do we have to look forward to in March?

Well, we have (as previously mentioned) International Women’s Day, LMJ, Mothering Sunday and Easter Sunday, all to look forward to. And as if that’s not enough,  by the end of March, the sun won’t be setting until 7.45 PM! What we going to do with all that extra daylight !!!!

So what have we got to look forward to tonight?

Well it goes without saying, we will, of course be celebrating International Womens Day and doing so by sharing what we know about gynaecological cancers (with big thanks to The Eve Appeal for providing the literature) to help us stay as healthy as we can, while empowering ourselves with the knowlege to help us prioritize our health and wellbeing going forward.

Don’t be put off though, it’s not as heavy as it sounds as we will also be indulging in the 4 C’s, some super creative Craft, Cake, Coffee and Chat. You Know us – if it’s to be educational, it’s to be fun (and very often juvenile 😏). We may even see some Tea Dueling too if we get time to fit it all in. We can’t promise though, there’s a lot going on for a 2 hour time slot!

There will also be a quiz and the all the usual shenanigans like the raffle, gossip #coughs I mean notices from county, updates on from the pub clubs #coughs again I mean SUB clubs, Birthday celebrations and all of your good news stories. 50p covers your tea, coffee & cake and £1 covers raffle ticket should you wish to partake.

Sounds like a fantastic evening! Celebrating International Women’s Day with craft, cake, and awareness for women’s health. I hope it’s a great turnout, and everyone enjoys the evening. Why not bring a friend.

As always you can check out our Facebook page to see some of the epic things we’ve been up to recently – including rocking a workout with Mika, Drumming with a real live drumming troop,  draping the city’s Spitfire in poppies and much, much more. And if you have any queries you can contact us on the Let’s Make Jam’s Facebook page or email us on letsmakejam@hotmail.com.

Before I go I would just like to say a special thank you to Jenny Cook who every month updates the Let’s Make Jam Private page with evrything you need to know about what is happening in the world of ‘County’ & National – providing us with Bulletins, information on competition’s and the WI Learning Hub, concerts and the like. This takes time and ‘Spoons’ so if you get the chance, please pop on to the LMJ Private page and have a catch-up. … Thank you Jen XX

And lastly, let me know what you thought about February’s Meeting in the comments below 👇

So, you know the place – St John the Evangelist Community Hall, Loomer Road, Chesterton, ST 7JS. And you know the time 7.15 for a 7.30 start.
