Sub Clubs & Other Stuff – Feb 24

It’s Jam Day y’all.

Hi everyone, and Welcome to Pudding Club… I mean … Hookers & Hubbers!

Jammy Hookers 🧶

Last Thursday (The first Thursday of the month, not to be confused with yesterday) the usual suspects got together at Westbury Tavern for some good ol’ fashioned socialising, supper – (occasionally happens), and stitches.

Even a little crochet and knitting was achieved, alongside the pots of tea and catching up on gossip!

As you can see, we have some really lovely projects going on here.

Not everyone who attends Hookers crochets or knits, and Hookers is not just about yarny projects, its about all things woolly, stringy, threads and fleece and needles too!

And don’t forget cake! Not everyone who attends Hookers can crochet, knit or sew, and not everyone wants to. So if you fancy a little light company, cake, coffee or even something a bit stronger, come along (always drink responsibly though – She says! 🤣 )

Times can sometimes vary, due members meeting up before hand for supper or snacks, so it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on the socials, times are normally confirmed a day or two before.

The Hookers usually meet twice a month, the very first Thursday of the month and the third Wednesday at Brindley Farm.

Jamanory Book Hub 📖

We had a great meet up this month – technically last month, the last Tuesday of the month. I’m never sure wether Jamanory comes before or after as they are so close together – Any ways …

We got so much done, in such a small space of time, and we had a lovely turnout too, with 8 members coming along. And we have had some AMAZING suggestions for the both the Main & BYOB Lists for 2024. Infact we had so many suggestions for the main list, some have actually made it onto the BYOB list just because they were just too good to be left on the shelf! I will bring the full lists to LMJ tonight before launching them on the JBH over the weekend.

We discussed January’s Choices, chose February’s books, and discussed the exciting prospect of a ‘Blind Date With a Book’ also at tonight’s meeting.

Pre wrap your book in plain paper and don’t forget to write the genre somewhere on the cover. This is your oppertunity to share the love this Valentines day – which also happens to be WORLD BOOK GIVING Day! Yeah, just a tad more important than chocolate I would say (though wine comes a close second in my opinion).

January’s Reads

Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus is a tale of ‘A woman’s pursuit of knowledge and equality in a male-dominated world’.

January’s Jam Choices

It offers a captivating and enjoyable read, with Elizabeth Zott as a compelling protagonist. Elizabeth is an extraordinary woman, determined to live on her own terms in a world that’s not always ready for her ‘no nonsense’ approach! And whilst she can sometimes feel alone in the fight, she soon learns she certainly isn’t as alone as she once thought, with unexpected allies all around.

Lessons in Chemistry was a huge hit with the Hubbers and scored a solid average of 8.7 out of 10 with the majority saying they would both recommend it to friends AND would read more from the same author.

Coming Home to Island House by Erica James

Coming Home Island House by Erica James is an intriguing tale set against the backdrop of a turbulent time in history. Romily Temple’s journey home and the challenges faced by the Devereux family are both poignant, gripping and awkward to say the least. As they confront their past and navigate the uncertainties of the present, the story seems poised to explore themes of resilience, forgiveness, and the transformative power of love amidst adversity.

Coming Home is the second Erica James book to feature on our 2023 Jamanory Book List and was also well received, scoring a very respectable 7.5 out of 10 by the Hubbers, again with the majority saying they would both recommend to a friend, and read more by the same author.

February’s reads are The last Devil to Die by Richard Osman & The Figurine by Victoria Hislop. We will be at Brimdly Farm, 7.45 for an 8pm start on Tuesday the 27th of February. Again, you really don’t have to be a big reader, and you don’t have to have started, or even finished either of the books to join us. So why not come along and see what we are all about. We’d be happy to see you at Hookers or Jamanory.

So, are you ready to join us for tonight’s meeting of relaxation, rejuvenation and wellbeing?

I hope so. After the week I’ve had I could defo use some of that! Not to mention cake, cake is always good.

Good Cake, Good company and Good Vibes. What more do you want on a frosty February Friday ah? (Well, I mean, apart from Gin)

So be there or be square, you know the place, St. John’s the Evangelist’s Church, and you know the time 7.15 for 7.30 start. And don’t forget your Book to Swap.

Until then,

                Stay Jammy
