June Spa – Pamper Pj Party

Hello Ladies, I hope you are all keeping well.

It was so lovely to see so many of you at the Pamper night last month (12th of June). What a fabulous evening we had.

We were all given a list of potential ingredients – not unlike tonight’s meeting, so we could make up our Face-masks before the meeting. And we are not talking boring old Covid face-masks either, uh uh! We are talking the all natural, all gooey, gungy, goodness type of face-mask. The kind that smells good, tastes good and does good.

milk-honey-bathAfter we got settled in, it was then over to the wonderful Jane Lloyd, our fabulous speaker for the evening, who took us through the best ways to apply our face-masks and why, for the most effective results.

Jane JamAnd Whilst the face-masks were working their magic, Jane then talked us through a wonderfully relaxing visualisation exercise.

I caught up with Jane for a little chat earlier today.

Jane, Thank you for ‘virtually’ coming to see us at our last meeting in June, our Pj Pamper Session. It was really lovely having you there. Can you introduce yourself to our members who couldn’t make it on the evening?

I’m Jane Lloyd, a Clinical Hypnotherapist specialising in helping people with long term health conditions live life to the full, despite the diagnosis.

That sounds like it could be very rewarding, you were explaining on the night that you, yourself have had some experience in this field, do you mind telling us a little bit about it?

Yes, it is very rewarding!  I use hypnosis to help people with such things as managing pain, remaining positive, reducing anxiety about hospital treatments etc. Having been diagnosed with Breast Cancer in October last year, I’ve recently had the opportunity to personally check out just how well some of the techniques I use, work in practice.

We were all sorry to hear that Jane, but how are you doing and feeling now?

I’m pleased to say that I finished my treatment during lock-down and have been given the all clear!

That’s Amazing, Congratulations! Well, you certainly do look fabulous! Can you talk us through a little bit of what you took us through on the night?

The LMJ pamper included a cleanse, deep cleanse tone and moisturise routine.  I used a soft brush to work the cleanser into the laughter lines during the deep cleanse to make sure every line was refreshed and moisturised.

During a Facial, delta waves create a deep feeling of relaxation resulting in a reduction of adrenaline and cortisol (stress hormone) in the body. They also increase melatonin which aids sleep.  And a good night’s sleep allows your body to rest and repair at a cellular level.  As increased delta waves also encourage the body to release anti-ageing hormones – one of the best side effects is that you look more youthful!

Whilst myself and others, used ready-made face masks, some creative LMJ Members had made their own.  It sounds as though some of these tasted delicious…

LOL, Guilty! And yes I probably did eat at least half of mine before it actually made it onto my face. I blame Rebecca Brown’s recipes actually, they were all natural ingredients and very scrummy. Good for the mind, body and soul.

Then, whilst everyone relaxed with their face-masks on, I took them through a guided visualisation which offered the metaphor of a lake.. The guided visualisation encourages the brain to release alpha and theta waves, which relax and boost not only positivity, focus and problem-solving skills but also the immune system too. All the more reason to treat yourself to the occasional Facial . . .  for therapeutic reasons of course! – Of course!

The visualisation suggested that over time the lake can be still or whipped to frothing by the wind and weather, it reflects whatever is around it and yet, in its depths, it remains calm and still, no matter what is happening on the surface. The visualisation invites us to use the lake as a metaphor for how we respond to whatever emotions we are feeling on the surface.  Its aim is to leave the listener more able to manage their emotions and respond to the daily challenges of life.

Well, I for one felt very calm after the visualisation exercise.

I’m fascinated by the mind body connection and the impact our mental health has on our physical well-being and vice-versa.  Being in a constant state of stress has detrimental effects on so much of our daily life – our ability to sleep, lose weight, manage pain, and keep a healthy immune system.   With this in mind, in 2019 I trained in Holistic Facials and so use these, in combination with guided visualisation to help clients achieve a deep sense of relaxation.
In addition to hypnotherapy and facials, I’m also a Tropic Skincare Ambassador, a qualified Laughter Yoga Leader and was part way through a Diploma in Complementary Therapies (massage, reflexology, and aromatherapy) before Covid struck. I’m hoping to continue with that once we’re able to get ‘hands on’ again. Instead, I’ve just started a Diploma in Medical Hypnotherapy to keep me out of mischief in the meantime! – Mischief? I don’t believe it…

And how do we call upon your services flower?

I’d love to direct you to a website, but as I’m in the process of re-branding, I don’t currently have one.

So what do our members do if they would like to know more or contact you?

LMJ members wanting to connect or request more information are welcome to contact me on Facebook.

Jane Lloyd, Clinical Hypnotherapist at Amaranth Lloyd, thank you once again for both coming to see us on the night, and for taking time out to talk to us this afternoon. It was an absolute pleasure to have you xx

*Jenny Cook featuring in both issues for craft AND the making of PPE actually, go Jenny!

Or tirelessly keeping up to date with pastoral care, sending out ‘Happy Mail’, arranging countless Zooms for subgroups and giving members the opportunity to keep in touch with each other and feel included…

A Warm Wild in Wales Welcoming

Wild in Wales
Wild in Wales 2021, The Most Fabulous Fun Ever In a Tent

Last week there was an opportunity to attend a ‘Q and A’ session for those attending WinW (not to be confused with W’n’W) who have never camped before, a guide to all that is needed to know about WI camping ahead of Wild in Wales 2021, followed by a quiz and chat. I caught up with Vanessa and Beki earlier this week and they told me all about it…

“On Friday 3rd July, 4 Mrs Dragons, 4 Jam members, 2 of those being Whelps, and around 30 other WI members met via Zoom. Wild in Wales 2021 will be the first national weekend camp to be hosted in the beautiful Brecon South Wales.

The original pre-Covid plan – has been re-scheduled to run from
JUL 2, 2021 AT 1 PM – JUL 5, 2021 AT 1 PM.

Our zoom re-launch began at 7.00pm with a Wild in Wales Welcome hosted by Police Officer Sarah from the Aberhonddu Angels WI. Quickly followed by a meet the 4 Dragons and a Q&A session.

The 4 Mrs Dragons behind the scenes are:
Sarah Aberhonddu Angels WI.
Louisa Aberhonddu Angels WI. previously Gin and Jam WI
Teresa President of Penarth WI and dual member of Dinas Powys WI
Fiona from Aberhonddu Angels WI.
And several Whelps. (A whelp being a baby dragon) Both Vanessa and a I (beki) are Whelps.
Dragon Fiona – has NEVER camped before! So we had a Q&A time – advice for first time campers and general information about the Wild in Wales campsite.

As with all other camps there will be exciting competitions and winners. Paula Jean who has judged at the Staffordshire County show shared judging secrets with us all. How to become a WI Judge, What WI judges look for and other useful Hints and Tips.

Two competitions have been pre-launched 1) Name our Dragon & 2) a cross stitch competition, the pattern, a beautiful logo of a knitting dragon, of a Let’s Make Jam design! Ideas for her enduring name along with an explanation of why you would call her that, are to be submitted via the Wild in Wales Facebook page. The big reveal will be at camp in 2021. English, Welsh, any language you chose. We accept all.

It’s sad we won’t be camping this year – but the silver lining… it was raining that night at the camp site !
Bx”

“It was a great opportunity to chat and get to know each other. To end the evening Beki did a fab little generation game ‘What did Beki forget when camping’ with camping items. We had a series of pictures where one item was missing each time. I actually won so was really pleased with my little self! Then we had more chattering, more questions, more drinking……..”  Vanessa

Lol, Thank you Ladies, it sounds like you all had a really good time, I bet you can’t wait until you actually get to go? If you could please keep us up to date on Wild in Wales that would be great !

cook-a-long

This evening is our WI meeting!

We had originally planned a live cookery demonstration for you all at the hall but you don’t need me to explain why that’s not going to happen now. So, through the magic of zoom, you can cook along along at home too.

The recipe we’re cooking is PEAS AND FREEDOM!

Chris, from Feasted, who is proving the demonstration says:

“This recipe can be something quite refined but its equally great in a lunch box for work and has lots of very tasty elements.” – Lets face it girls, most of us like to find a Tasty Element in our lunch box occasionally!

If you want to cook along – here’s your shopping list. Please feel free to substitute any ingredients if necessary.

Savoury granola

100g oats
40g pumpkin seeds
30g mixed sesame seeds
50g cashew nuts
1tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp maple syrup
1 egg white

Fresh peas/ frozen peas (if frozen use good quality)
Make sure you have 100g of peas defrosted in cold water
Handful of board beans
You could also use a couple of asparagus spears
Block of feta cheese or goats cheese (get the small log of soft goats cheese. It has a much nicer, subtle flavour)
Herbs such as mint, chives, oregano, tarragon

White wine vinegar 100ml
Raddish
Red onion
Sugar
Salt
Peppercorns, bay, chilli flakes (optional)
Garlic clove

Optional: Pulled ham hock or roast pork 100-200g (or maybe even Jack Fruit)

Jammy Hookers

Jammy Hookers is held on the first Thursday of every month, again via Zoom (for the moment). And just as you don’t have to be able to ‘read’ to be apart of the Jamanory Book Hub (Pst! I don’t get time to read, #audible whilst doing other things…) – You don’t really need to be a ‘Hooker’ to take part in a Jammy Hooker Zoom! Jammy Hookers is for all things Woolly, Yarn and Thread based. However, that aside, I have been know to pop a long to the odd meeting not knowing how to crochet or knit! It is a great place to learn though. Check out our facebook pages below for more details.

However, the main book up for scrutiny will be Raynor Winn’s The Salt Path.

“This is an honest and life-affirming true story of coming to terms with grief and the healing power of the natural world. Ultimately, it is a portrayal of home, and how it can be lost, rebuilt and rediscovered in the most unexpected ways”

So whether you have read along with the Jamanory group, or have read it in the past please fee free to join us on Thursday 16th July to discuss.
