May Meeting 2019 – Magical May

What can I say about a month that saw our AGM, Book Hub, Hooker Club, Camping Capers and Canal Carryings on! Well as anyone who has ever known me will tell you – quite a lot actually! There’s been has been so much going on that’s made May’s LMJ  month really magical!

May’s meeting saw our AGM – sounds boring I know right, but we at Lets Make Jam, we don’t really do boring, so the gorgeous Gemma White devised a fantastic Ladies Quiz. I’m not really sure what team won, I’m not really sure if we all used the same marking system or if we were really playing to win at all, but there were lots of sweetie prizes flying about and lots of fun had by everyone so thank you Gemma, it was definitely a hit.

Of course we also got down to business and our president was duly elected.  And I’m really sorry Buddy but I don’t think you are actually allowed a nomination other wise I’m sure you would definitely be up there in the running. Maybe mascot ah? I’d vote for that!

I asked Carly Smith how she felt after being elected and she had the following to say:

” I’m super excited about being elected president of Let’s Make Jam and feel very grateful for you all believing in me. Thank you for giving me this opportunity! We’re such a great W.I. with a huge range of skills and experiences and I’m looking forward to finding out more about them over the next year (and maybe beyond) If you’ve you got any questions, concerns or queries, please do get in touch – I’m really excited about helping to take us from strength to strength! “

Thank you Carly

Canvasing on the Canal

If there is one thing Jam ladies love (yes, yes, apart from Cake, Coffee and well, all things confectionery) Its a good old chat, a chinwag, a con-flab! So some of our ladies pitched up at the Etruria Canal Festival to take Jam to the masses. And what a wonderful day was had! Despite the odd bit of rain everyone managed to stay dry. Oatcakes were ordered and devoured from the oatcake barge and the display looked wonderful. It was lovely to see old friends and meet lots of new ones. Lots of people asking lots of questions about the sort of things not just Jam ladies, but All WI ladies get up to! While we can not account for all WI’s of course, the biggest reason for coming along to a Jam meeting (Ok, ok, not just for the Cake!) is because we are a TOTALLY AWESOME bunch of Gals.

Jam Girls Get Camp!

Oh my goodness me what a time we had and there was far too much to do to put it all in here, so we’ll put that under a separate blog. In the mean time here’s a little taster of some of the shenanigans we got up to. If its enough to wet your appetite please pop over and take a look. Who knows, you may fancy coming with us next time.

June’s Jam

We have so much to look forward to at this months Jam.

fb_img_15600975277705082580015498494603.jpgThis week we have the absolutely awesome Art Brasil, and, as the name suggests, are a Brazilian Percussion, Song and Dance based organisation. This will be a wonderful opportunity to do some Samba dancing and drumming. A chance to let loose and shake your stuff.

We will also be telling you more about an exciting social evening we have coming up on the 29th June. So grab your flip flops ladies and join us for a cocktail  and an evening of summer lovin’

We be holding our annual Plant Swap this month. How does it work? Well you bring 6 plants with you and swap them for 6 more to take away.  It really is that simple! In the past we have done bedding plants and garden, food plants and also indoor plants so a mixture of all, a selection of one or the other and even a few (Shop bought) new ones have all made it in! Like our cake selection though, we really aren’t that fussy, it’s just really nice to get as many involved as possible so we can get a really lovely selection going on!fb_img_15600410379275856965475532951988.jpg

And we will also be asking for your Cheddleton Tea Room deposits of £5 if you wish to join us for afternoon tea on Sunday 22nd of September.screenshot_20190611-224318_google3689713523097222415.jpg

Of course we will also have all of your favourites like tea, coffee and cake (goes without saying), raffle goodies, all the gossip and up to date federation news, hugs, smiles and last but not least, your committee!

Help Wanted!

At this Friday’s meeting, Sam Ward will be asking all members for help brain storming for ideas, for next years program planning. This is your chance, as a member, to have an input on next years program of events. So if you know someone with a special talent, a fabulous speaker or a craving to explore a new craft, please seek out Sam. We want a program to impress all our members.

❤❤Please also stop by and have a natter with the Awesome Mrs A’ (AKA Sam Arnold) if you would like to know more about our appeal for Period Power, a charity that helps homeless women and girls with something we ladies often take for granted in our day to day lives, but what do you do if you’re homeless? Where do you go, what do you buy? What can you afford, and will you have to choose between eating today and buying sanitary ware? So if you can, please spare an extra pound or maybe two and pop an extra packet of sanitary towels or tampons in your shopping cart and bring them along to our next meeting this Friday.20190609_2001158054275972113504173.jpg

Support for our Beautiful Kitchen Queen is much needed! While we all know Vanessa Walklett is a total Wonder Woman, but making anything up to and above of 100 brews is not easy! Our Queen needs a couple of extra pairs of hands to see that things to run smoothly and that EVERYONE gets a fair chance to see speakers and dabble in craft. Please wave or speak up at the appropriate moment if you feel you can offer a helping hand. You do not have to commit to every meeting, but every now and then would be gratefully appreciated.

Remember ladies, its our WI night this Friday (every 2nd Friday of the month). Usual place St. Wulstan Community Centre, Church Lane, Wolstanton, N.U.L ST5 0EH. Usual time, doors open at 7.15 for a 7.30 start. Hope to see you there.image

And finally: Please remember to sign up, to one or more, of our many social media pages. We can then keep you up to date with everything that is happening in the world of Jam. You can keep up to date with all our shenanigans on Face Book, Insta, Twitter and of course the regular Web Site http://www.letsmakejame.co.uk

From the Let’s Make Jam Team, until next time

be Jammy!

*With thanks and credit to everyone who helped supplied the photos this month, it was much appreciated – Rebs
