On September 12th, in our centenary month, because we all love the WI our very own treasure Sam demonstrated to a packed room how to make a lovely willow heart. Sam has been playing with willow for the last few years after an inspiring day course. On the evening Sam brought along other examples of her makes, willow flowers, fairy wands, bird feeders, Christmas decorations, mini wreathes & baskets.
Choosing between different willow types with and without bark, us Jam girls got our hands dirty, we enthusiastically manipulated the willow bending and twisting, starting over, stopping for a cake break, a chat before we all eventually finished our ‘easy’ hearts!
President Johanna creating her heart to hang in her baby bumps nursery.
Just a few simple bends in the willow and tadarrrr a heart!
Some got it first time others need a little more assistance, and some new willow.
After the heart frames were made we weaved with a different type of willow to fill out the heart.
Ribbon was added to finish and just look how proud we all are!!!
Look out for an advanced skills willow master class coming soon.
