Snow falling in a beautiful Victorian park, hot mugs of mulled wine being drunk festively by very attractive women selling cake, that was the scene on a christmas card the other side of a freezing cold tent in longton where LMJ members stood unable to feel their toes or fingers at 10.30am sunday morning.
With thanks to Mr Jam and his fabulous chauffeur skills we eagerly set up tables, laid out our cakes and set out to sell as much as possible and drag any unsuspecting female into the corner and bombard them with the fabulousness that is LMJ.
Obviously Beki was more than prepared weather wise with 18 layers of fleece and ‘duvet’ socks than the rest of us who lost all feeling from the knees down as we sank slowly into the mud. The weather wasn’t our friend and the foot fall wasn’t massive but we sold every last crumb of cake and even donated a few slices in the name of christmas spirit, to fellow stallholders .

It turned out to be a very funny day as we handed out cards, chatted away and made new friends throughout the day many of whom were furry but some were actual humans and hopefully new members.  We made friends with the greyhound rescue and the adorable ‘haggis’, had cuddles from two of the cutest Staffordshire bull terriers called Boo and Basil, the sweetest chihuahua and a darling mini pom called Alfie.

A massive thank-you to Beki, Delma, Andrea and Sue for championing LMJ though the day, support means everything, and also a big thanks to those who baked for us, including Janet, Michelle, Claire and Leanne and Julie.

Beki and I were rewarded for our hard work with a nice hot pork bap and some music at the end of the afternoon, I christened my new boots with 5 inches of mud and I learnt a stern lesson about cups of tea from ‘vans’ and the spoon shortage in Longton.

Well done girls!

Gemma
